Earthquake Strikes Mizoram with Magnitude 3.5: Seismic Activity Continues

An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale shook the region of Lunglei, Mizoram, today, as reported by the National Center for Seismology. The earthquake struck at precisely 7:18 am, with its epicenter situated at a depth of 10 kilometers below the earth's surface.

Mizoram was jolted by this tremor on January 5, prompting a swift response from authorities and seismic monitoring agencies. The coordinates of the quake's epicenter were specified at latitude 22.86 and longitude 92.63, drawing close attention from the National Center for Seismology to assess potential implications.

This recent Earthquake in Mizoram follows closely on the heels of another earthquake, which occurred a day earlier in Jammu & Kashmir on January 4, 2024. That event registered a slightly higher magnitude of 3.9 on the Richter scale and struck at 00:38:15 IST. Unlike the Mizoram quake, the earlier tremor had a shallower depth of 5 kilometers and was centered at latitude 33.34 and longitude 76.67.

The consecutive occurrences of seismic activity in these distinct regions underline the importance of continued monitoring and preparedness efforts by authorities to mitigate potential risks and ensure the safety of affected communities.
