Ensure the safety of all the people of Mizoram: Superintendent of Police, Cachar

In a bid to control any more untoward incidents that might further infuriate the people of the two states, the Assam Government has issued a directive to the he Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (M), Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, and Superintendent of Police, Cachar to ensure safety of the people of Mizoram residing in areas under their jurisdiction. The directive read, "In view of the recent skirmishes between Assam and Mizoram Police and taking into account the tense situation on the aforesaid Inter State Border, the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (M), Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, and Superintendent of Police, Cachar are hereby directed to ensure the safety and security of all persons belonging to Mizoram staying at Mizoram Houses at Guwahati and Silchar. All the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police shall ensure safety and security of people belonging to Mizoram who are residing in areas under their jurisdiction."

Meanwhile, the liaison officer of Mizoram House at Silchar told that the situation is calm at the moment. However, a few Mizoram residents have fled to Jiribam in neighbouring Manipur, fearing that the simmering tension might lead to a communal clash Assam ADGP GP Singh tweeted, "@mygovassam instructions regarding safety of people of Mizoram residing in Assam especially Silchar and Guwahati. @cacharpolice and @GuwahatiPol would ensure the same. @assampolice @mizorampolice"
