NEW DELHI: More than 30.58 crore un-organised workers have registered on the e-Shram Portal to access various government welfare schemes as of January 28, 2025, Parliament was informed on February 3. Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, shared in a written reply to the Lok Sabha that over 1.23 crore workers registered on the portal in 2024 alone, with an average of 33,700 new enrolments each day. The Ministry of Labour and Employment launched the e-Shram portal (eshram.gov.in) on August 26, 2021, to create a National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) linked to Aadhaar. The portal provides unorganised workers with a Universal Account Number (UAN) based on self-declaration, helping them access social welfare schemes. Currently, 12 government schemes from different central ministries are connected to the e-Shram Portal, which is available in 22 Indian languages. The portal is also linked to the National Career Service (NCS), allowing workers to use their UAN to register and search for job opportunities. Additionally, e-Shram is connected to the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM), a pension scheme for unorganised workers aged 18-40. Under this scheme, workers receive a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 after turning 60, with the government covering 50 percent of the contribution. The portal has been updated to include family details of migrant workers and shares construction workers' data with states and Union Territories to support their registration under local Building and Other Construction Workers (BoCW) boards. To promote skill development, e-Shram is linked with the Skill India Digital portal of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. It is also connected to the myScheme portal, a national platform that helps citizens discover government schemes based on their eligibility. On October 21, 2024, the Ministry of Labour and Employment launched e-Shram as a “One-Stop-Solution” to integrate different social welfare schemes under one platform. This allows registered workers to access social security benefits and track the schemes they have availed. Among the 12 integrated schemes are the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Prime Minister Street Vendors AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANidhi), PM Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), PM Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
