Ex-MLA detained for consuming liquor in Bihar

Patna: On Wednesday, a former MLA of Bihar's ruling party was detained after he was seen overriding beer and mocking chief minister Nitish Kumar's move to enforce ban in the state in April.

Lalan Ram who was ex-JD(U) MLA, and was shown by a news channel calling the alcohol ban useless, was arrested from Bihar's Aurangabad after an FIR was lodged against him. After the occurrence the footage had gone viral on social media.

Ram was an MLA from Aurangabad's Kutumba between 2010 and 2015. The arrest comes at a time when the Bihar government has obvious to make the proscription more stringent by making even possession of liquor a non-bailable offence.

Earlier, JD(U) lawmaker Manorama Devi was jailed after liquor was recovered from her residence.
