New Delhi: FBI Director Christopher Wray is set to visit India against the backdrop of Washington's allegations regarding an Indian connection to a foiled plot targeting Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti disclosed Wray's upcoming visit at an event, underscoring the strength of the US-India relationship and the frequency of visits by top Biden administration officials to New Delhi. Garcetti mentioned, "The FBI director is here next week," highlighting the active engagement between the two nations. It is anticipated that Wray will engage in talks with senior Indian security officials during his visit. Recently, the Washington Post reported that the Biden administration, alarmed by the discovered plot, took substantial action by sending CIA Director William J Burns and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines to India in August and October, respectively. Their mission was to demand an investigation into the plot and ensure that those responsible would be held accountable. US Principal Deputy NSA Jonathan Finer also visited India this week, holding discussions with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, and Deputy NSA Vikran Misri. The White House, following Finer's visit, emphasized the importance of holding anyone found responsible accountable based on the findings of India's inquiry into the alleged Indian link to the plot targeting Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Last week, India expressed its concern about the US linking an Indian official to a man charged with conspiring to kill Pannun. In response, India initiated an inquiry panel to investigate the allegations, describing the situation as a "matter of concern" and asserting that follow-up action would be taken based on the inquiry's findings.
