New Delhi: The Home Ministry has restored the FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) registration of missionaries of charity (MoC). The Missionaries of Charity has been set up by Mother Teresa, who is involved in welfare activities in India, but has also been accused of conversion. Earlier, the Home Ministry had said that registration had not been renewed earlier as "some adverse inputs were seen against it." However, the ministry has now restored the FCRA registration of the institution on January 7. It may be mentioned that it is only through an FCRA license that an institution can take funding from abroad. On January 25, the Home Ministry did not renew the missionaries of charity's FCRA licence. The organization then joined the list of 6,000 institutions that had lost their FCRA licences. In West Bengal, 1,030 NGOs are eligible for foreign donations and MoC were included in the list. The government stopped the registration of about 6,000 NGOs from January 1 as the Home Ministry refused to renew his application or NGO had not applied for renewal. The Home Ministry had earlier said in a statement that the renewal of the MoC was refused on December 25 for not completing the eligibility criteria. It was also said that its licence was valid till October 31, but it was extended to December 31 along with other associations.
