Pakistan: Gunmen fired bullets on polio team, two policemen died

Islamabad: Two policemen have died in an attack by unidentified assailants on a polio vaccination team in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. According to the report of the Express Tribune, police personnel were involved in a nationwide campaign, which was started this week to immunize crores of children in Pakistan. Pakistan is one of the two countries where polio disease is making children a victim.

Giving information about the incident, a police officer has told that, 'This incident happened on Wednesday in the Maidan area. Police personnel were going to a basic health unit when they were targeted. He has said that, 'No officer in the polio vaccination team was hurt.' He said that the attackers managed to escape from the scene after the attack. At the same time, no one has claimed responsibility for the murder in this attack.

Let us tell you that in Pakistan, 104 cases of polio have come to light so far in 2019. Only 12 cases were reported last year. Vaccination campaigns have been facing a lot of resistance in Pakistan for many years, many people refuse to get children vaccinated due to confusion and conspiracy etc. Wednesday was the third day of the five-day polio campaign.
