First arrest in UP under new 'Love Jihad' law, accused caught in Bareilly

Lucknow: After the enactment of the law against Love Jihad in Uttar Pradesh, the accused in the first case registered in this regard has been arrested. On November 28, the first case was registered in Deoria, a police station in Bareilly, after the illegal conversion ordinance was approved by Governor Anandi Ben Patel. A man named Uwash Ahmed was accused of forcibly converting religion by luring a girl from another community.

On the complaint of the victim's father, the police has filed a complaint and started investigating the allegations. The police had said at that time that a person living in a village under Deorania area had said in a police complaint that Uwash Ahmad son Rafiq Ahmad of the village had mingled with his daughter while studying. He had alleged that Uwash Ahmed is being seduced and lured and put pressure on the student for religious conversion.

According to the complaint, on the protest, the accused is threatening to kill the student's father and family and abuses them. Since the case came to light, the accused was absconding to avoid the arrest of the police. It is being told that the police arrested the accused from the Deorania railway gate on the information of an informer.
