Five entries shortlisted for South Korea's new presidential office

SEOUL: Five names had been shortlisted for South Korea's new presidential post On Friday.

As per reports,  the presidential office has shortlisted The People's House, Itaewon-ro 22, The People's Government Office, Mineum Government Office, and Bareunnuri. These  five were chosen from 30,000 public entries received over a one-month period beginning April 15th.

The name contest began after President Yoon Suk-yeol chose to relocate the presidential office from Cheong Wa Dae to the former defence ministry site in order to be more accessible to the people. The former presidential residence, known as Cheong Wa Dae because of its blue roof, was situated on a hilltop in a private enclosure.

Mineum is a combination of the Chinese characters for "people" and "voice." Bareunnuri roughly translates to "righteous universe," while Itaewon-ro 22 combines the presidential office's street address with the year it debuted, 2022. From Friday to June 9, the five names will be placed to a vote online at www.epeople.go.kr/idea.

After combining the results of the online poll with a jury's assessment in a 70:30 ratio, the official name will be published later this month.
