Flood threat hovers over north Bihar, water level of several rivers rises

Patna: The flood crisis is looming large in north Bihar. In fact, continuous rains for a few days and water released from gandak barrage have added to the problems of the railways. The Samastipur Railway Division has issued a monsoon alert till October 15 in view of the rise in water level of rivers. In view of the threat of floods, railways have started dropping boulders and stone dust at the erosion site. The engineering department team is patrolling.

The water level of rivers passing through several sections of Samastipur railway division has started increasing. Especially on Samastipur-Darbhanga, Narkatiaganj Balmikinagar, Mansi-Saharsa sections, the risk of floods is high with erosion. In a bid to deal with flood emergencies, Samastipur Railway Division has made adequate arrangements for stone boulders, stone dust, empty bags of cement, bamboo-bally at stations near flood affected places.

On the other hand, boulders and stone dust are being dropped at erosion sites as a precautionary measure. The Samastipur railway division spread over 15 districts of north Bihar suffers a loss of crores of rupees due to floods every year. Last year, flood water had hit the gator of Railway Bridge No. 16 on bagmati river passing near Hayaghat station of Samastipur Darbhanga railway section.
