Flying taxis in the skies over US cities; NASA-Uber ink Space Act Agreement

LOS ANGELES: Nasa and Uber have inked a pact to travel around putting flying taxis in the skies over US cities as TOI reported.

Nasa stated on Tuesday that it will embark on simulations for so-called ``urban air mobility'' vehicles that also consist of delivery drones.

The announcement of Nasa-Uber agreement came as the Uber Elevate summit in Los Angeles brings together tech and transportation Superemos to talk about the future of urban aviation.

Nasa said that the goal is to make a rideshare network that will set aside residents to hail a small aircraft in the similar way that Uber users can now use an app to call a car.

The world’s largest space agency said simulations are considered at its research facility at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

The two companies have penned a "Space Act Agreement", an instrument that allows NASA to work with third parties that assist Ubber to advance its mission.

“NASA is excited to be partnering with Uber and others in the community to identify the key challenges facing the UAM market, and explore necessary research, development and testing requirements to address those challenges,” Quoted by The Ragister Jaiwon Shin, associate administrator for NASA’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate as saying.

On a related note It’s not the first pact between the two companies. In November 2017, Uber inked its first partnership with a federal government agency to develop “Unmanned Traffic Management” and to function Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) at low altitudes.
