Follow these tips to maintain a healthy Lifestyle

Nowadays, one often complains about the lack of time to take care of health, owing to monetary, work, personal pressures encompassing his or her lives completely. It is not possible for everyone to hit the gym, indulge in physical exercise, and maintain a proper diet. In such taxing times, what can one do to promote a healthy lifestyle for him or her? Here, we present a few tips that if followed regularly, can go a great deal in shaping up a healthy lifestyle.

Reduce Alcohol intake: Reduce the intake of alcoholic beverages as they play havoc with the functioning of the liver and pancreas. If used to consuming alcohol regularly, cut it down to a few pegs on a weekly basis. Even when consumed, dilute the beverage using water or aerated drinks.

Green Tea: Make sure that you consume green tea at least twice a day. It not only kills the unwanted bacteria but also kills the unwanted fat by burning it and increases metabolism. Try to avoid adding honey and sugar.

Regular Exercise: This might sound a bit harsh, especially for working professionals, but the body needs regular exercise of at least 30 minutes on a daily basis. If working late in the nights, after work hours, try to play games like table tennis, shuttle with colleagues at work, as it’s a win-win situation. Not only does it help to build up your health, but also helps in strengthening the understanding among employees.

Try to go for walks or jogs. The longer the duration, the better it is. Make sure you sweat during your exercise sessions. Avoid using automobiles and elevators.

Avoid tobacco: Avoid all forms of tobacco, as it affects almost every part of the body. It starts with the lungs, mouth, affects the heart as the pumping of the blood takes a toll, and leads to various forms of cancer. Not just tobacco, avoid being ‘passive smokers’. A passive smoker is one who does not himself smoke, but it exposed to tobacco and smoke emanated from smokers around him.

Avoid junk food: Junk food has a lot of empty calories, i.e. the calories that have less or no nutritional value. Also they have high fatty contents like cheese, butter which cannot be processed by the body completely and are stored as fats, blocking the blood vessels, thus affecting the circulation of blood. If tempted, consume in small amounts, that too on a weekly or bi weekly basis.

Water: Consume at least eight glasses of water daily. This would not only help to clean the unprocessed foods, but also boost the metabolism of the body. It also ensures that the kidneys are working fine. Use proper filtering and purification methods before the consumption of water.

Leafy Vegetables: Consume more leafy vegetables, which are rich in fibers and also high in nutritional value. Make sure the vegetables are washed properly before consumption.

Fruits: Most or almost every fruit contains a certain nutritional value to it. Try to have at least one fruit per day. Avoid aerated drinks and shift to fruit juices. Reduce the sweet intake and consume more of citrus fruits. Switch to fruit salads rather than ice creams, puddings.

Regular meals: Try not to skip any meal and maintain sync with the body clock (the time that the body is used to consuming food). Skipping of any of the three meals is not advisable. You can have both breakfast and lunch a bit heavy, while the dinner can consist of simple meals like chapattis, wheat rava, and oats. Also, try to avoid huge breaks between meals. Try munching on a snack or biscuits if meals are delayed.

Stress: All of us have stress issues, ranging from monetary, work, and family to relationship and personal stress. The only way to deal with stress is to face the problems from the front. Try not to take things to heart. Laugh loudly, joke with others, smile regularly and make other people smile. Do not take decisions in haste and think calmly and coolly before taking any decision. Try to count numbers from 1-100 in times of stress, as this would help to reduce the stress.

Yoga: Though most of the youth find yoga unattractive, it is a great stress buster and also helps to avoid unnecessary tensions and calm the mind. Try meditating or close your eyes for a few minutes, without thinking about anything if it is not possible to take up yoga. Meditation also could help a lot!

People, your life is in your hands only. Laxity would only lead to further health complications. It’s better to ‘stich in time’.
