Former Andhra minister's daughters, son-in-law get anticipatory bail

AMARAVATI: In the Class 10 question paper leak case, the Andhra Pradesh High Court granted anticipatory bail to two daughters and a son-in-law of former minister P. Narayana, and some others.

P. Sharani, P. Sindhura, K. Punith, and ten other members of the Narayana group of educational institutions were granted anticipatory bail. Justice K. Manmadha Rao issued the interim orders in response to their house motion plea, instructing the government not to take any rash action against them. The hearing has been rescheduled on May 18. Narayana, the founder of the Narayana Group of institutions and a leader of the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP), was detained in the case last week.

On May 10, a team of Chittoor police officers arrested him in Hyderabad. In the early hours of May 11, he was brought before a magistrate in Chittoor. However, the magistrate granted Narayana bail after agreeing with his lawyer's assertion that he resigned as chairman of the Narayana Group in 2014.

Narayana and seven others were detained on April 27 in Chittoor town in connection with the leakage of an SSC test question paper. After a Telugu question paper was leaked from an examination centre and disseminated in a WhatsApp group, the police filed a report.

On April 27, the District Educational Officer (DEO) filed a complaint over the distribution of a Telugu language question paper.
