Former Aussie Spinner defends Pant, advises to “Ring up Dhoni”

Rishabh Pant, who led the men in blue for the first time during the five-match T20I  series against South Africa, was under scrutiny for his leadership skills.

The series was concluded with each team having won two matches after the rain stole the show in the final match. Pant however ended up facing the heat as the team lost the first two matches under his leadership.

Former Aussie spinner Brad Hogg however had a piece of advice for Pant which he shared via posting a Reel on Instagram, which included him saying that Pant should ring up former Indian Captain MS Dhoni, who stayed calm regardless of the situation as a captain during the matches or have a chat with Head Coach Rahul Dravid if he needs assistance related to captaincy.

Hogg further added that the wicketkeeper batman needs to back himself up and not let others influence his decisions.

BCCI has an eye out for the next captain due to Rohit Sharma’s age who is the current skipper in all three formats. The contenders for the position are batsman KL Rahul, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, and Pant.

When the topic of Rohit’s ‘perfect record’ came p, Hogg highlighted the fact that the skipper is yet to lead the men in blue away from home this year. He added that it’s also unfair to compare other players who captained this year with Sharma as we are yet to witness his leadership under pressure on foreign soil.

“Captaincy is always a discussion in India, especially when they are losing,” Hogg said.
