Former Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel casts her vote in Ahmedabad's Ghatlodia. BJP's Bhupendra Patel is up against Congress's Shashikant Patel on this seat.

Prominent candidates in the battle ground of Gujarat include state deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, who is contesting from Mehsana in opposition to Jivabhai Patel of Congress.

Alpesh Thakor, who coupled with the Congress, is in the hunt for election from Radhanpur constituency. Lavingji Thakor of the saffron BJP is contesting in opposition to him.

Vadgam SC seat is another important constituency from where independent nominee Jignesh Mevani is challenging the election on Congress to support in opposition to BJP's Vijay Chakravarti.

In Maninagar, the constituency once is a symbol for the seat of PM Modi, Congress has given a ticket to foreign-educated young face Sweta Bhrambhatt in opposition to BJP's sitting MLA Suresh Patel. Narendra Modi had departed from the constituency after becoming the PM in 2014.

The security has been enlarged in different parts of the state in the wake of the elections.The Bhartiya Janata Party has placed 93 candidates for this phase, while Congress has brought only 91.Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP Chief Amit Shah, and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will also pay the visit to cast their votes in their constituencies The First phase of the Gujarat Assembly Polls 2017 saw voter turnout 68 percent.In the interim, re-election will be conducted tomorrow in two booths of Jamjodhpur constituency, two booths in Una, one in Nijjar, and one in Umargam. The consequences will be announced on December 18.
