Lucknow: On Saturday (August 3), former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP Supremo Mayawati voiced her support for the Yogi Adityanath government's crackdown and bulldozer action against Moeed Khan, the accused in the Ayodhya gangrape case. She stated on social media platform X that the strict actions taken against the accused are justified. However, Mayawati criticized Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav, questioning the party's call for a DNA test in the case. She asked, “What should be understood from SP saying that the DNA test of the accused should be done? SP should also tell how many DNA tests have been done against such accused during their government.” Mayawati emphasized that strict actions on matters of law and order, especially those related to women's safety, should rise above caste, community, and party politics. Earlier in the day, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav broke his silence on the Ayodhya gangrape case, demanding DNA tests for the accused in heinous crimes to ensure no innocent person is framed. He argued that if the allegations are proven true, the guilty should receive full punishment as per the law. Conversely, if the DNA test proves the allegations false, government officials involved should be held accountable. He emphasized that this demand was for the sake of justice. Akhilesh Yadav received backlash for his comments and subsequently edited his post to include media reports about a crime in Jaunpur. However, he later deleted the tweet. In his current posts, he demands DNA tests for heinous crimes without referencing any specific incident. Additionally, SP's Ayodhya MP Awadhesh Prasad also demanded a DNA test in the Ayodhya gangrape case, giving the matter a communal angle. Akhilesh Yadav and the Samajwadi Party have faced criticism for their stance on the Ayodhya gangrape case. Several users on X and BJP leaders have linked SP's stance to a controversial remark by SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, who once said, “They are boys, mistakes are made,” when discussing crimes against women.
