FPIs' stock holding value increased by 13 percent

MUMBAI: According to a research report, the value of foreign portfolio investors' (FPI) holdings in domestic equities hit USD667 billion in the three months ended September 2021, up 13 percent from the previous quarter.

This was largely due to the Indian equities markets' good performance, as well as net inflows from foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) in the latter half of the quarter. "At the end of the quarter ending September 2021, the value of FPI investments in Indian equities jumped dramatically to USD667 billion, up from USD592 billion the previous quarter, a jump of roughly 13 percent," according to the research.

FPI investments in Indian equities were at USD398 billion as of September 2020. FPI contributions to Indian equity market capitalisation, on the other hand, decreased slightly to 19 percent in the quarter under review, from 19.1 percent in the previous quarter. Apart from other prominent FPIs like offshore insurance companies, hedge funds, and sovereign wealth funds, offshore mutual funds make up a significant portion of overall foreign portfolio investment. FPIs saw a net inflow of USD563 million in the quarter ending September 2021. It was, however, less than the USD678 million in net inflows witnessed in the quarter ending June.
