France imposes 6:00 pm nationwide curfew to fight corona: PM Jean Castex

Paris: In view of increasing corona cases, the French government will impose a daily nationwide curfew at 6:00 pm starting Saturday.

 Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Thursday said that the measure will remain in force for at least two weeks. Up to now, most of France has been under an 8:00 pm curfew, with some parts of the country, especially in the hard-hit east, already under the stricter 6:00 pm curfew. Castex said a new lockdown could be imposed "without delay" if the health situation were to deteriorate badly. Schools will remain open, but indoor sports activities have again been banned for now.

Talking about the global Coronavirus cases, it rise unabated across the globe, with more than 93.5 million infected by the deadly contagion. While 66,797,824 have recovered, 2,001,208 have died so far. The US remains the worst-hit country with 23,847,250, followed by India, Brazil, Russia and the United Kingdom. However, it terms of the total number of active cases, US tops the charts, followed by France, UK, Brazil and Belgium.
