France into last 16 at Euro 2016

‘Hosts France are the first team through to the last 16 of the Europe 2016 football tournament after beating Albania 2-0 in Marseille’.

France booked their place into the last 16 of Euro 2016 being played in their home country with a 2-0 win over Albania at Stade Velodrome in Marseille.

Substitute Antoine Griezmann scored in the 90th minute to give Les Blues a well fought lead and Dimitri Payet scored for a second game running to seal the result. With the win, France has six points after two games while Albania, with zero points, stand bottom of the table.

"This is becoming a bit of a habit, I'd prefer us to break the deadlock a bit earlier," said a relieved French coach Didier Deschamps. "Until the final whistle is blown there is still a chance to win the game, especially against teams who you have to wear down.

" France had lost to and drawn with Albania in the last two friendly meetings so they knew they would not be handed the game on a plate by a team desperate to make an impact in their first major tournament, after they were beaten by Switzerland in their opening game having suffered an early red card.
