PARIS: According to the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE), France's Consumer Price Index (CPI) climbed by 4.8 percent on an annual basis in April, with a monthly increase of 0.4 percent.
As per Xinhua report, the institution ascribed the CPI increase to the acceleration of service, food, and manufactured goods costs. According to INSEE, the cost of transportation services has increased due to increased airfares and transportation costs via road.
It was reported that the costs of meat, bread and cereals, milk, cheese, eggs, oils, fats, and coffee climbed in April. lothing and footwear costs have also risen. Energy costs rose by 26.5 percent on a yearly basis in April, which was slightly less than the 29.2 percent increase seen in March.
The government implemented a four-month fuel discount at the beginning of April, which reduced the increase in petroleum product prices. However, due to the influence of market prices, electricity rates increased, according to the INSEE.
The CPI in France climbed by 4.5 percent in March, reaching its highest level since December 1985.
