France’s ecological transition minister Barbara Pompili will be on five-day visit to India. The minister will also visit the famous Kaziranga National Park during her tour. Barbara Pompili will visit India to deepen Indo-French ties on sustainable development, will visit Assam. She will travel to Kaziranga National Park, one of the sites of the Assam Project on Forest and Biodiversity Conservation (APFBC) and IIT-Guwahati during her Assam Visit. The French Development Agency has been working with Assam since 2012. It provides financial and technical assistance to APFBC to support the state’s biodiversity conservation efforts, sustainable and participatory management of forests and the creation of alternate livelihoods for forest-dependent communities. In the wake of the One Planet Summit held in Paris on January 11, she will stress on the potential of Indo-French cooperation to spur international efforts for biodiversity protection.She will also meet the beneficiary of the skill development programmes to develop alternative livelihoods. Kaziranga is a national park in the Golaghat, Karbi Anglong and Nagaon districts of the state of Assam, India. The sanctuary, which hosts two-thirds of the world's great one-horned rhinoceroses, is a World Heritage Site. According to the census held in March 2018 which was jointly conducted by the Forest Department of the Government of Assam and some recognized wildlife NGOs, the rhino population in Kaziranga National Park is 2,413.
