NEW DELHI: A group of people protested over the delay in Railway recruitment examinations and the newly introduced Agnipath plan on Thursday, causing a train stopping at the national capital, according to an official. Around 15-20 people gathered at Nangloi train station to mount a protest against the recent introduction of the Agnipath Scheme and the delay in Railway recruitment examinations. "During the protest, one train bearing train number 04424 (Jind to old Delhi) was stopped at Nangloi Railway Station," stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer district) Sameer Sharma. After that, a Nangloi police station Station House officer arrived on the scene and asked the protesters to leave the railway track in a calm manner. "They were heard peacefully saying that they had filled for some government examinations 2-3 years ago but that the recruitment examinations had not been conducted yet, and that they were now over-aged," DCP Sharma added. The police, on the other hand, were able to calm the protestors and disperse the throng. "The situation is now under control," Sharma said, adding that "all of the kids have departed from the train track." On Tuesday, the Union Cabinet approved the 'Agnipath' recruitment scheme, which will allow Indian youth to serve in the Armed Forces. The youth selected under this scheme will be known as 'Agniveers'. This year, some 46,000 of them will be recruited. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, the scheme is a game-changing move that will allow Indian youth to participate in the armed forces. "The plan aims to build a youthful profile of the Armed Forces through increasing employment options."
