GAIL India forays into distributed LNG production business

The country's largest gas marketing and transportation company, GAIL (India) Ltd, announced on Wednesday that it intends to start a distributed liquefied natural gas (LNG) production to deliver the fuel to consumers.

GAIL India will liquefy (convert natural gas into liquid) at temperatures below zero and deliver it to users in trucks. In a first-for-the-nation initiative, GAIL intends to start producing distributed LNG with the goal of meeting demand from off-grid places and the transportation sector, the company stated in a statement.

Two small-scale liquefaction skids that can produce LNG on a trial basis have been ordered by GAIL. Mobile liquefaction skids based on exclusive technology will be used to liquefy the material.

"These facilities will aid in the distribution of natural gas through the liquefaction of gas in new urban areas, liquefaction of gas in remote locations, and support for the construction of LNG bunkering and fueling stations. It will bring portable and scalable liquefaction units for the first time in the nation, according to the statement. The project is intended to provide the Indian government's targeted programmes with a boost and enhance the proportion of natural gas in the primary energy mix.

Additionally, there are talks about the company producing liquefaction skids in India.

After cheap oil, India is now getting another big advantage from Russia.
