BJP and other Hindu groups supported the idea of saving cows along with bringing in a law to stop illegal cow transport and slaughtering during the first meeting ever held to take up the mission of saving cows. After the great political debate relating to cow slaughter, seems like Narendra Modi goverenment is finally determined to take the "save cows" mission seriously.
The gaushala meet which was organised by the Agriculture and Environment ministries witnessed Union speakers being shut down by the audience which at times nearly erupted into fights. The conference included mainly farmers, cow-owners and those associated with gaushalas.The main motive of the conference was to discuss ways to strengthen the cow economy, increase milk yields and promote indigenous varieties of cattle.
Government initiatives were spoken about by the agricultural minister but was soon interrupted by the audience claiming they were not benifitting from those schmes. When the union minister for environment Prakash Javadekar came to speak, audience shouted out that unless the cow slaughtering will not be stopped, no change will take place.
"Why are people clapping at what the government is saying? Has the government put an end to cow slaughter? Till that happens, everything that this government says is meaningless. This government is not serious on cows," said Jitendra Malik, Sonepat head of Goshala Sangh of Haryana. Rajnath Singh who was to be the chief guest for the meet, skipped the event and the meet witnessed no political statements.
