T20 World Cup: Gautam Gambhir angered by IPL's protest, says defeat has nothing to do with it

New Delhi: India's performance in the T20 World Cup 2021 has been disappointing. Team India has lost two matches so far and it is very difficult to reach the semi-finals. Team India is now set to face Afghanistan in their next match today. Some people are questioning the Indian Premier League (IPL) after their embarrassing performances against Pakistan and New Zealand. There was a strong trend on social media even #BanIPL.

Now former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has supported IPL. Gambhir says IPL gives players match practice. Gautam Gambhir, speaking to the media, said, 'You cannot blame IPL. In Indian cricket, if anything goes wrong, everyone starts pointing fingers at IPL, it's wrong. Sometimes you have to assume that 2-3 teams are playing good cricket than you. The sooner you accept it, the better it will be for you.

Gambhir said, 'We were not that brave in the last match against New Zealand. We were very nervous even before the game. What does it have to do with IPL?  The same thing happened in the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup. Even at that time, we went to the World Cup after playing the Indian Premier League. IPL is important because players need enough match practice. You can't go to the World Cup with 2-3 matches of practice.'
