Giriraj Singh Calls for NRC in Jharkhand Amid Concerns Over Decreasing Tribal Population

Patna: Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Monday emphasized the urgent need for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Jharkhand, claiming that the state's tribal population has significantly decreased from 44% to 28%. Singh also advocated for NRC implementation across the entire country, particularly in states like West Bengal and Assam.

Speaking about Jharkhand, Singh accused the Hemant Soren government of following Islamic laws by closing schools on Fridays instead of Sundays. He reiterated that NRC is essential to protect the state's demographic balance. Additionally, BJP state incharge Shivraj Singh Chouhan echoed these concerns, accusing the current government of favoring infiltrators from Bangladesh for political gain. He assured voters that the BJP would implement NRC if elected, vowing to protect local residents and remove illegal immigrants.

As part of their election campaign, the BJP recently unveiled five key promises, or 'Paanch Prana,' focusing on youth and women empowerment. The upcoming elections for Jharkhand's 81-member legislative assembly are expected to take place by December 2024.
