Goa govt to build 100 new reservoirs for wild animals: CM Pramod Sawant

Panaji: The Goa government today announced on Saturday that it will build 100 new reservoirs for wild animals in the state's forests to reduce conflict between animals and humans. Today is World Environment Day and state Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has shared a video message on the occasion. In this message, he said that the state forest department will also plant 5 lakh fruit trees in the forests.

 

 

At the same time, he has also said that "250 youth have been trained as nature guides to inform people about the rich biodiversity of forests. There are a total of 50 'Vaidya Mitras' who have planted different herbs in our forests. He also said that the State Government is organizing bird festivals, turtle conservation and other special programmes to spread awareness about forests. You can all see Pramod Sawant tweeted on the occasion of Environment Day today.

In this tweet, he wrote, "Prithvi is our home and it is our responsibility to keep pace with the environment. On the occasion of World Environment Day, I appeal to all to come together to save this planet and its biodiversity for ourselves and future generations". In his video message, the Chief Minister said, "Eco-tourism is being promoted through bio-diversity parks. Also, new nurseries have been set up at Harvelam (North Goa) and Dharbandora (South Goa). The State Government has paid compensation of Rs.10 lakhs to the farmers who lost their lives due to human-animal conflict".

In another video last Friday, the Chief Minister had said that the state government is working on reducing incidents of human and animal conflict.
