Kochi: The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs department in Kerala caputured gold worth Rs 26 lakhs at the Kochi (Cochin) airport on Wednesday, February 8.
As per a statement, the officials have seized 499.90 grams of gold from the possession of a Thrissur native in Kerala. The suspect arrived in Kochi from Dubai. As per report, the authorities found two unfinished gold chains that were stashed away in his pant pockets.
"Using the AIU's profiling data A cohort of AIU officers A passenger on flight IX 434 from Dubai to Kochi Airport was intercepted by a batch. During the investigation of the aforementioned passenger, two crude gold chains totaling 499.90 grammes were discovered and seized"
An airport traveller in Kochi was found to be in possession of 543 grammgramsold worth Rs 27.70 lakh by the AIU of the Customs department earlier on Friday morning.
A rectangular-shaped bundle with a weight of 543 grammesgramsscovered sewed inside the passenger's underwear when screening him as he arrived from Dubai. It was thought to contain gold in compound form. The officials later confiscated the packet.
Similar circumstances occurred last month when customs agents at the Kochi airport apprehended 1,062 grams of gold worth Rs 48.5 lakh from another traveller arriving from Dubai.
Four compounded gold tablets totaling 1,062 grammes were found and seized during the examination of the aforementioned passenger.
