Gold worth Rs 8 crore was brought to Assam by tanker from Myanmar, DRI seized it

GUWAHATI: The Directorateof Raw Intelligence and other agencies are adopting all the methods to curb gold smuggling. On the other hand, the smugglers involved in smuggling are also adopting new tactics on the lines of 'Tu Daal-Dal, Main Pat-Pat'. A team of directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) has seized a huge consignment of gold in Assam which was being brought to Guwahati through an oil tanker from Myanmar.

According to the information, the value of the smuggled gold in the market of the smuggled gold is said to be Rs 8.38 crore. According to information provided by the DRI, the gold seized is 15.93 kg. It was being smuggled in an organized manner. The smugglers had coded it as 'Gold on Highways'. The foreign gold was recovered from Guwahati and Dimapur on May 12. 

According to the information received from the DRI, inputs were received about the smuggling of gold from Myanmar. Based on this input, DRI has taken this action. According to information provided by DRI officials, two tankers carrying gold from Mao in Manipur have been seized in Dimapur and Guwahati. Based on the inputs, the alert DRI kept an eye on these tankers and stopped them for searches on the national highway. Dri officials have seized 15.93 kg of gold from these vehicles, valued at Rs 8.38 crore in the market.
