Google acquiring cyber-security firm Mandiant for USD5.4 billion

SAN FRANCISCO Google announced Tuesday that it will purchase Mandiant, a renowned cyber protection and response company, in an all-cash transaction valued at $5.4 billion.

Mandiant will join Google Cloud upon completion of the transaction. Mandiant's acquisition will bolster Google Cloud's existing security capabilities, the firm stated in a statement.

"Organizations worldwide are confronted with unprecedented cybersecurity problems, as the sophistication and severity of assaults historically reserved for powerful governments are now being utilised against businesses across all industries," said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud.

"We're excited to welcome Mandiant to Google Cloud, where we'll be able to further strengthen our security operations suite and advisory services, as well as assist clients with their most critical security concerns," he added.

With the purchase of Mandiant, Google Cloud will provide an end-to-end security operations suite with enhanced capabilities for customers' cloud and on-premise environments. Mandiant provides the world's leading organisations with real-time and in-depth threat intelligence gathered on the frontlines of cybersecurity.
