Google celebrates iconic singer Mukesh’s 93rd birthday with Doodle

On 93rd birthday celebration of Bollywood’s legendary and iconic singer Mukesh who dominated the Bollywood music space for decades, Google made a doodle logo on its India homepage.

The Delhi-born singer found his way to Bollywood after his voice was discovered by Motilal, an actor and distant relative, at his sister's wedding. Born in 1923, Mukesh Chand Mathur became the voice of many Indian actors throughout his singing career. He first rose to fame with Raj Kapoor's Andaz in 1949.

"The talent that earned him the nickname "The Man with the Golden Voice" took time to develop. Early on, he studied with classical musician Pandit Jagannath Prasad, and for years emulated his idol, singer K.L. Saigal. Working with music director Naushad Ali, who gave him the songs for Andaz, he eventually came into his own," says Google's blogpost.
