Gopal Rai to chair high-level meet for execution of anti-pollution guidelines

New Delhi: On Wednesday, November 17, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai is set to convene a high-level meeting at his residence to discuss the strict implementation of the latest directions issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to contain air pollution in the National Capital Region and adjoining areas.

The meeting is expected to attend representatives from the Environment Department, the Public Works Department (PWD), the Delhi Police, the Traffic Police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

To combat air pollution in the region, the Air Quality Management Commission has issued many directives, including a construction work ban, school closures, and work from home. The commission has asked the governments of Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh to put the restrictions into 'strict force' right away.

According to an official release, the commission has also directed five states to submit a compliance report to the commission by November 22nd, and the directions will be closely monitored by the Chief Secretary of Nation Capital Region States, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi on a regular basis.
