Beijing Olympics won't send official delegation to Japan, find out what's the reason

Japan on Friday announced that it will not send a delegation of ministers to represent the government at the Winter Olympics to be played in Beijing. But 3 Olympic officials are going to participate. Japan's decision comes at a time when the US began a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Games for opposing China's human rights conditions. Not only that, but the US is also not going to send its official delegation to these games.

Chief Cabinet Secretary informed: Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno has said in the midst of a press conference that we have no plans to send a government delegation for the Winter Olympics to be played in Beijing. He further said Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee Chairman Seiko Hashimoto, the Japanese Olympic Committee Chairman Yasuhiro Yamashita and Japan Paralympic Committee Chairman Kazuyuki Mori will participate.  According to reports, three officials are scheduled to participate at the invitation of international Olympic and Paralympic committees to represent JOC and IPC.

Japan backs out of it: Japan's decision not to send a government delegation to the Beijing Winter Olympics follows a move by some other democracies, including the United States, Australia, Britain and Canada. These countries also refer to China's human rights violations. Japan has since refused to send its delegation.

The decision was taken keeping several points in mind: According to the Chief Cabinet Secretary, Japan says it is important for China to guarantee universal values of freedom, respect for basic human rights and the rule of law, which are universal values in the international community. He said Japan has taken this decision keeping all points in mind.
