Kolkata: Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose responded to the attack on a team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in East Medinipur district, stating that "violence is a potent factor" in the state's election scenario. He highlighted the existence of an unholy nexus between politicians, bureaucrats, and criminals in certain pockets, where goons hold sway and dictate terms. During a raid related to a 2022 blast case, an NIA officer was injured in the attack, prompting CV Ananda Bose to emphasize the need for strong police and legal action to curb such criminal activities. He stressed that the state government bears a major responsibility in controlling the culture of violence, asserting that stringent law enforcement measures are necessary to deter criminals. CV Ananda Bose also echoed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's concerns about potential riots around Ram Navami on April 17, acknowledging the tendency for individuals to take the law into their own hands. He expressed agreement with the Chief Minister's assessment, highlighting the need to address this issue effectively. Regarding the possibility of election-related violence, the Governor acknowledged past incidents and ongoing developments, indicating the likelihood of violence in certain pockets during the election period. However, he expressed confidence in the preparedness of authorities to handle any such situations, citing the presence of central and state forces, along with the Election Commission's unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order. He also mentioned his intention to request a report from the state government regarding the attack on the NIA team.
