Govt of Shehbaz to investigate Imran's assets and income

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: After deposing Imran Khan and dealing with his allegations of corruption against opposition party leaders, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's government has chosen to investigate the legality and value of Imran Khan's assets and income.

According to sources, the federal government has decided to launch a thorough investigation and scrutiny of Khan's assets and income, including the details of at least four of his employees on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) payroll, and dig deeper into finding irregularities that could be used to charge Khan with assets beyond means, undeclared income, and illegal inflow of large sums of money from unknown sources and accounts.

Tahir Iqbal, Muhammad Noman Afzal, Muhammad Arshad, and Mohammad Rafique are the four PTI employees. "Records of large quantities of money being deposited into the private accounts of four PTI personnel are being sought from the SBP, and arrests will be made based on the proof," an informed source said.

"Forensic examination of records will be carried out by independent auditors while FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) and FBR (Federal Board of Revenue) will take action by obtaining records at their respective levels." The government has also chosen to look into Khan and his party's finances in other countries, where large sums of money are allegedly being funnelled to various PTI accounts and members.

"The government has decided to issue a letter to international financial institutions requesting information on PTI and Imran Khan's international bank accounts," the source said.
