New Delhi: The central government has decided to release a big scheme for road accident victims. Under which road accident victims will be treated without any amount. The government is setting up a 'Motor Vehicle Accident Fund' to pay the treatment of such people. The Transport Ministry has released a proposal of Rs 2.5 lakh for the treatment of every person injured in the accident. The Ministry is nominating the National Health Authority as the nodal agency to implement this scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). According to the information received, all road accident victims of Indian or foreign nationality are being considered eligible under the scheme. The Center has sought feedback from all Chief Secretaries on the proposed plan till 10 July. A letter written by the Ministry of Transport in its address to the states stated that the central government would formulate a scheme for cashless treatment of victims of road accidents and such a scheme may have a provision to create a fund for the treatment of victims. The National Health Authority is a nodal agency for PM-JAY. It has agreements with 21,000 hospitals across the country, so it will be the responsibility to implement the cashless treatment scheme for the victims of the road accidents. According to the Ministry of Transport, every year 1.5 lakh people have been killed in road accidents in India. On an average, 1200 people are victims of road accidents every day, out of which around 400 people lose their lives.
