Battle against deadly coronavirus take a pace, 17 labs to open to monitor different variants

New Delhi: The government has stepped up preparations to tackle the corona epidemic. With new corona variants coming up, 17 new labs will be opened in the country to monitor the government. There are only 10 labs right now. In addition, 45 lakh testing is also being prepared per day.

The second wave of corona infection in the country may have started slowing down a bit now, but experts have warned of a third wave. In view of this, the government has now started preparing to deal with corona. Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan held a high level meeting on Monday. In a meeting, Dr Harsh Vardhan informed that 17 new labs will be opened in the network of Indian SARS Cov-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG). At present, there are only 10 labs across the country. Labs will be opened so that virus variants can be monitored. The Union Health Secretary said that by next week, 14 local languages, including Hindi, will also be added to CoWin.

Dr. Balram Bhargava, DG, ICMR, who was present at the meeting, said that about 25 lakh tests are being conducted daily across the country. These include 1.3 million RTPCR and 1.2 million antigen tests. Emphasis is being laid on increasing testing capacity to 45 lakh per day soon. This will be followed by 18 lakh RTPCR and 27 lakh antigen tests every day.
