Gufi Paintal was in the army before playing the role of Shakuni in Ramayana

BR Chopra's Mahabharata' is once again going on-air on Doordarshan. With this, two episodes of the daily show (12 noon and 7 pm) have been started on DD Bharti from Saturday, 28 March, amid the 21-day lockdown in the country. Apart from this, Shakuni Mama was also present in the popular characters of this serial, which was telecasted in 1988, played by Gufi Pental. But few people would know that before Shakuni was formed, Gufi was in the army and used to do Ramlila on the Indo-China border. The interesting thing is that Gufi got the role of Sita in Ramlila.

In a conversation with a media reporter, Gufi had said that when the war between India and China started in 1962, he was doing engineering. Along with this, there were direct recruitment of Army from colleges during this period. Gufi always wanted to go to the army. At the same time, he seized the opportunity. At the same time, he was posted in the Army Artillery on the China border. Along with this, Gufi said, "There was no TV or radio entertainment on the border, that's why the young Ramleela used to play. Whereas I had to play the role of Sita and the person who made Ravana kidnap me on a scooter.

For your information, let us tell you that Gufi Pantal's family had settled in Delhi from Lahore, Pakistan during the partition, while his father Gurcharan Patel alias Channi opened a studio in Delhi's Sadar Bazar. Along with this, Gufi was fond of acting since childhood, so came to Mumbai at the behest of his brother. Along with this, Gufi was the casting director in 'Mahabharata'. He told, "I had selected three people for the role of Shakuni. Meanwhile, Rahi Masoom Raza, who was writing the script of the show, caught sight of me and advised him to play Shakuni."
