Gujarat Sets Guinness Record for Mass Surya Namaskar; PM Modi Lauds Achievement

In an outstanding display of unity and wellness, Gujarat secured its place in the Guinness Book of World Records by organizing the largest simultaneous Surya Namaskar performance. Early this morning, more than 4,000 individuals from 108 locations and 51 diverse groups came together to perform Surya Namaskar, highlighting the state's dedication to health and cultural traditions. The awe-inspiring event took place at the magnificent Modhera Sun Temple, drawing enthusiastic participation from families, students, yoga aficionados, and seniors alike.

Following this incredible achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his delight and commended Gujarat for this extraordinary feat. He encouraged all citizens to incorporate Surya Namaskar into their daily routines for its numerous benefits.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister remarked, “Gujarat started 2024 with an incredible milestone—setting a Guinness World Record with 108 venues simultaneously performing Surya Namaskar! The number 108 holds great cultural significance for us. The iconic Modhera Sun Temple also saw enthusiastic participation. This truly reflects our dedication to Yoga and cultural heritage. I urge everyone to embrace Surya Namaskar daily for its immense benefits."

At the morning event, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi graced the celebrations. The atmosphere brimmed with joy as Guinness World Records adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar officially confirmed the successful attempt.

Surya Namaskar, also known as Sun Salutation, is a yoga practice that comprises a sequence of twelve graceful postures. Each posture is synchronized with the breath and performed in a flowing manner, paying homage to the sun. This ancient practice is revered for its multifaceted benefits, combining physical exercise, mental tranquility, and spiritual significance. It is believed to enhance flexibility, improve strength, stimulate vital organs, and promote overall well-being. Surya Namaskar holds a special place in yoga traditions, symbolizing gratitude and reverence towards the sun, which is considered a source of life and energy. Regular practice is said to bring harmony between mind, body, and spirit.
