Gurinder Chadha to direct Disney's musical film

LOS ANGELES: 'Bend It Like Beckham' film producer Gurinder Chadha will be directing a unique musical feature from Disney, inspired by a dynamic princess from Indian history.

As per reports 'Deadline', the plot is yet unknown, but we hear that the project is under the umbrella of Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production.

The movie is being produced by Lindy Goldstein under her Lindy Goldstein Production label. She is the director of "The Nutcracker" and "The Four Realms."

With her company, Bend It Films, Chadha has produced a number of movies and TV shows in India.

For both "Bend It Like Beckham" and her debut movie, "Bhaji on the Beach," Chadha has received two BAFTA nominations.

What's Cooking, her subsequent film, was the opening night film of the 2000 Sundance Film Festival and the first British script to be accepted into the Writer's Lab of the Sundance Institute. The movie shared the 2000 season's Audience Award victory given by the New York Film Critics.

"Bend It Like Beckham" topped box office charts internationally and earned more over $76M WW, making it the highest-grossing British-financed and distributed movie ever at the UK box office (at the time of release). The movie garnered nominations for Best Picture (Musical or Comedy) at the Golden Globes, Best British Film at the BAFTA Awards, Best Film at the European Film Academy Awards, and Best Original Screenplay at the Writers Guild of America Awards.

Her other films include "Bride & Prejudice," which combines elements of Indian and Western musicals with works by Jane Austen, and was the first movie to debut at No. 1 in both the UK and India on the same day; "Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging," which was distributed globally by Paramount in 2008/2009.
