'Congress would have won Gujarat if AAP was not there..', said Rahul on biggest defeat

Jaipur: Congress Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi is on Bharat Jodo Yatra these days. Meanwhile, in a statement targeting small and regional political parties, he said that if Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had not been there in the Gujarat elections, Congress would have easily defeated the BJP. Let us tell you that in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections, BJP won 156 out of 182 seats, breaking all records. This is the best performance of any party in the assembly elections so far.

At the same time, Congress has given its worst performance so far in this election. Rahul Gandhi's party has won only 17 seats. Earlier in the 2017 elections, the Congress had got 77 seats, giving a tough fight to the BJP, although AAP's account was not opened in that election. But, AAP got five seats in this election. This time the results for the Congress are disappointing. The Congress may not have been in power in Gujarat for many years, but it could not compete with the powerful BJP, which was firmly entrenched in the politics of the state. Even after this, Rahul says that, had AAP not been there, Congress would have easily defeated the BJP.

Along with this, Rahul Gandhi also commented on the leaders leaving the Congress, saying that they are welcome to do so. He said, ''If some people want to leave the Congress party if someone does not have the courage to stand against the BJP, they are welcome to leave the party. We don't want them. We want those who believe in the Congress party and do not believe in fascism.''
