Shatila Ekadashi is observed on Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Magh month. On this day, there is a law to offer things made of sesame and sesame seeds to Lord Vishnu. On this day, a person who observes fast on this day gets the fruits of Kanyadaan, Swarnaadan and thousands of years of penance. Shatila Ekadashi is on 20 January. In the Purana, there is a lot of importance of Shatila Ekadashi. The person who observes Shatila Ekadashi gets the fruits of Kanyadaan and Swarnaadan. This fast not only gives man all the comforts of life. Rather, by observing this fast one also gets a place in Baikuntha Dham after death. Use of six types of sesame is told in Shatila Ekadashi. The first is to mix sesame and bathe with water, the second is to massage with sesame oil, the third is to perform havan with sesame oil, the fourth is to take sesame water, fifth donate the sesame and the sixth is to take things made from sesame. Shatila Ekadashi date will start from Monday 20 January and will end at 2 AM in the morning of 21 January. The reason for the fast can be attributed from 8 am to 9.21 on Tuesday morning. Therefore, follow the rules of Ekadashi from the Dashami date itself. Wake up before sunrise on this day. Clean clothes should be worn after taking bath. Do not wear black and blue clothes. After chanting the same mantra, do havan with sesame seeds. After this, offer Lord Vishnu the offerings of sesame seeds. After offering bhog, perform aarti with the incense and lamp of Lord Vishnu. After performing the aarti, give food to a Brahmin or poor person after God. After the meal, donate the sesame seeds to the Brahmin or poor person with Dakshina, because on this day, the donation of sesame seeds is given more importance. One day Lord Vishnu became pleased with the woman and disguised as a beggar and came to the woman's house to ask for donations. The woman, in anger, put a stone in the vessel of God. By doing this the woman got all kinds of happiness in life, but she could not find anything to eat. She started wondering what the benefit of such comfort facility from which she cannot even buy any food item. She then prays to God again and the reason for her mistake is asked. The Lord then appeared to her and told that unless something was donated after rigorous penance. Till then the full results of tenacity are not attained. Especially on the day of Shatila, one must donate. Donating items made of sesame and sesame is most auspicious on this day.
