New Delhi: Venkaiah Naidu is the current Vice President. Today, he is celebrating his 70th birthday. He has been the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party from the year 2002 to 2004. The ministers of various departments have also beautified the posts in the center. The ruling National Democratic Union of India (NDA) on 17 July 2017 declared him the candidate for the post of Vice President of India. He was elected the thirteenth Vice President of India by defeating Gopalakrishna Gandhi in the election held on 5 August 2017 and became the Vice President on 11 August 2017. Venkaiah Naidu was born on 1 July 1949 in a Kammu (Kayastha family) in Chavatapalem in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. He completed his schooling from High School, Nellore, and graduated from college in politics and diplomatic studies. He passed the graduation status in the first class. He earned a bachelor's degree in law from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. In 1974, he was elected as the President of the Students' Union at Andhra University. For a few days, he has also been the convenor of the Andhra Pradesh Student Organization Committee. Venkaiah Naidu has always been identified as an 'agitator'. He first made headlines in 1972 during the 'Jai Andhra Movement'. During this time he actively led the movement from Vijayawada, taking an active part in the movement of Nellore. In student life, he took part in the emergency struggle, influenced by the ideology of Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan. He took to the streets to protest against the emergency and had to go to jail. After the Emergency, he was the president of the youth wing of the Janata Party from 1977 to 1980. From 2002 to 2004, he served as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was the Union Minister for Rural Development in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and in the Government of Narendra Modi, he is the Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Parliamentary Affairs under the Government of India. By using rhyming words in their speeches, he is adept at presenting his words in a simple manner. He speaks in Hindi and English with his mother tongue Telugu. He is also a serious thinker. His book 'Tireless Voice Relentless Journey' was released in August 2017. His book 'Moving on Moving Forward, One Year in Office' was published in February 2018. Recently (August 2019) one of his books has been published titled 'Listening, learning and leading'.
