'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign: PM Modi's mother distributes national flags

AHMEDABAD: At her home on the outskirts of Gandhinagar city in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Hiraba, who turned 100 this year in June, distributed national flags to children on Saturday.

Bhupendra Patel, the chief minister of Gujarat, raised a massive tricolour on a 100-foot-tall flag post at Children's University in the state's capital on Saturday to mark the beginning of the three-day "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign commemorating the 75th anniversary of Independence.

Under this campaign, Hiraba distributed national flags to children at her home and waved the tricolour with them, a government release said.

She resides with Pankaj Modi, the younger brother of the prime minister.

Different regions of Gujarat organised "Tiranga Yatra," with BJP MLAs and ministers taking part in rallies with people carrying the tricolour.

Earlier in the day, in the presence of prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officials, MLAs, and former MLAs, Gujarat BJP President CR Paatil took part in a seven-km rally at Vijapur in the Mehsana district.

Ranjan Bhatt, a member of the BJP, and local MLAs went on a "Tiranga Yatra" in Vadodara. Other Gujarati cities and towns also celebrated in a similar way.
