Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini launched a fierce attack on the Congress party on Tuesday, branding it as 'anti-Dalit' and accusing it of disrespecting its Dalit leaders. His remarks came shortly after Union Minister Amit Shah criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments regarding reservation policies.
In a media interaction, CM Saini stated, "The basic character of Congress has always been anti-Dalit. They have consistently insulted their leaders. Whenever a Dalit leader in Congress begins to rise through hard work, Congress has worked to crush them down." He cited the period from 2009 to 2014, when Bhupinder Singh Hooda was in power, claiming that Dalit leaders from Congress expressed grievances against the party. Saini took to social media, warning Dalits about the 'dangerous' and 'violent' rule of Congress and Hooda, saying, "There is no need to remind the Dalits of Haryana how perilous and violent the rule of Congress and Hooda was for them, whose nightmares still haunt them today. In all cases of Dalit oppression, there was either clear connivance or silent support from the Hooda government."
He recalled horrific incidents during Hooda's tenure, specifically mentioning the tragic case of a Dalit girl who was burned alive in Mirchpur and noted, "Whether it’s Gohana or Mirchpur or Bhagana, all these dark dates will be found in the calendar of Hooda's rule." Saini also accused Congress of humiliating notable Dalit leaders, including Kumari Selja, stating, "The conduct of Congress is anti-Dalit. They have humiliated and despised everyone from Baba Saheb Ambedkar to Babu Jagjivan Ram, Sitaram Kesari, Ashok Tanwar, and now a Dalit woman leader."
Voting for the 90-member Haryana legislative assembly is scheduled for October 5, with the results set to be announced on October 8, coinciding with the counting of votes in Jammu and Kashmir.
