The Indian boxer Hawa Singh was born in Haryana. He joined the Indian Army at the age of 19. Hawa Singh surprised everyone by showing his talent and in the year 1960, he defeated champion Mohabbat Singh and became the champion of Western Command. Apart from this, Hawa Singh attracted everyone's attention by his performance and he participated in the Asian Games in the year 1966. He then won the gold medal at the 1966 Asian Games. He did not stop after this, he won the gold medal in the Asian Games held in Bangkok in 1970.

He was also honored with the Arjuna Award in the year 1966. Hawa Singh won consecutive National Championships from the year 1961 to 1972.
