NEW DELHI: The eight northeastern states, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and wide swaths of southern peninsular India, which have been battered by torrential rains, should brace up for more, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted similar rains over the next five days on Monday.
Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds, is very likely over Kerala-Mahe during the next five days, and isolated to scattered rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds, is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana during the next five days, under the influence of cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal off north Tamil Nadu coast
Fairly widespread/widespread rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms/lightning/gusty winds, is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim over the next five days due to strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to northeastern states at lower tropospheric levels.
"Thundersquall (wind speed exceeding 50-60 kmph) and hailstorm at isolated spots is also quite likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim on Tuesday," the IMD said. During the next 5 days, isolated to scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are quite likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha, the IMD said.
