Former Ireland goalkeeper Harry Gregg died at the age of 87

Former Manchester United and Northern Ireland goalkeeper Harry Gregg has said goodbye to the world. He was 87. For the last time, he was admitted to the hospital due to illness. He breathed his last in the hospital itself. Irish footballer Harry was voted the best goalkeeper of the 1958 World Cup. He was once the most expensive goalkeeper. However, he is remembered for his courage more than his ability.

That was normal in 1958, when he showed his courage to the whole world and due to this, about four people had come out of death. In the Munich airport accident in 1958, about 23 people lost their lives. Born there on 25 October 1932 in Tobermore, Harry saved some of his teammates, a pregnant woman and a child. After which he came to be called Hero of Munich. It was on 6 February 1958, when BEA Flight 609 crashed in a heavy snowfall. Harry was among those who survived the accident. He also saved four people in that accident. Harry did not lose courage and went back to the burning plane twice and pulled out his teammates and passengers. He drove Manchester United players Baggy Charlton and Dennis Willot out of the plane. At the same time, he had also saved the child of 20 months and the pregnant mother of that badly injured child.

He played 247 matches for United. He is particularly remembered for his 3–0 win over Sheffield. In this match, everyone saluted Harry Greg's passion, because he gave the team this memorable victory 13 days after the Munich accident. Harry's family thanked the medical staff of the hospital, because for more than two weeks, the medical staff had treated Harry with full devotion. Harry played for Doncaster Rovers from 1952–1957. He then moved to Manchester and played with the club from 1957 to 1966.
