Cyclonic storm 'Yaas' approaches; High alert in coastal districts of Odisha

New Delhi: The Odisha government has sounded a high alert in coastal districts in view of the cyclonic storm Yaas in the Bay of Bengal. Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra informed on Friday that a high alert has been sounded for all coastal and adjoining districts of Odisha.

Chief Secretary Mohapatra said, "A meeting was held on Friday with all line departments, NDRF, Coast Guard, INS Chilka, DG Police and DG Fire Service." Mohapatra said, "In view of the predictions of the Meteorological Department, all concerned departments like power companies, rural and urban water supply departments, health departments, Odisha Disaster Response Force and NDRF have been put on alert to be prepared with manpower and essential commodities."

Mohapatra said, "The process of identifying cyclone shelters and safe buildings on a large scale has been initiated whatever is necessary for relief and rescue has been arranged." He also said that the entire administration is fully alert to deal with the cyclone. The state's top official said all the routes of the cyclone will be clearly known in the coming two-three days. Then the state will decide where to focus more.
