Jaipur Serial Blast: High Court Hearing Death Reference to Confirm Death Penalty

Jaipur: The death reference sent to the High Court to confirm the death sentence awarded to the 4 accused in the serial bomb blast case in Rajasthan capital Jaipur was heard. The division bench of Justice Sabina, while ordering the copy of the death reference to the state government, has said that if an appeal has been submitted on behalf of the accused in the case, it should be listed for hearing along with the death reference.

During the hearing, government lawyer Sher Singh Mahala asked for time from the court to present the answer. It is noteworthy that the special court of bomb blast cases, while sentencing Mohammad Safe, Sefur Rahman, Sarwar Azmi and Salman to death on December 20, had acquitted another accused Shahbaz Hussain for lack of evidence. Let us tell you that the convict is sentenced to death only after the High Court has confirmed the death sentence given by the trial court.

For this, the case is sent to the High Court as a death reference on behalf of the trial court. Let us tell you that on 13 May 2008, there were bomb blasts at eight places in Jaipur, in which 71 people died. The accused who have been convicted by the court are Shahbaz Hussain, Mohammad Saif, Mohammad Sarwar Azmi, Saifur Rahman and Salman.
